Principal’s Corner
Dear Parents/Guardians,

One of the things I love about working in a school is the constantly changing schedule and selection of opportunities. It seems that every week something new is available to our students and staff. To illustrate here is a sampling!

Our 8th grade class enjoyed a presentation from Sam Drazin on "Changing PerspectivesThursday. Sam speaks about disability awareness and strategies to help students choose empathy, kindness, and inclusion. The ultimate goal of Sam's interactive presentation is to help everyone recognize their own challenges and to help promote understanding, respect, and acceptance of all people. I would encourage our 8th grade parents to ask their children about this presentation and their take-aways. We felt this opportunity fit nicely with our building-wide goal of building and supporting a caring community of learners.

This Wednesday our 7th and 8th grade students will attend a presentation by author Rebecca Stead. Rebecca Stead won the Newbery Award in 2010 for her book When You Reach Me. Her other books are First Light, Liar and Spy, and Goodbye Stranger, which is on Vermont's  Dorothy Canfield Fisher Award List for 2016.

On Friday our 6th grade class will participate in assemblies with the Jeh Kulu dance and drum theater. Jeh Kulu will bring the spirit of West African music and dance to exciting participatory assemblies all day in our auditorium. The day culminates with dance performances involving students and staff. Jeh Kulu's vision to is to raise cultural awareness, create a sense of community, and at the same time have fun.

Have a great weekend!
