RMS 6th grade teacher Suzanne Sylvester clearing off the basketball court for recess today. (Lepene)
Today's snow has some feeling a different sort of March Madness. I suspect many have turned their thoughts to spring and all that comes with it. For us, that includes concerts, a curriculum night, transition activities, and taking classes outside for physical education and natural place-based learning. Things get busy and the dates to keep track of are numerous. Please keep an eye on the calendar and upcoming dates. If we can assist with any schedule related questions don't hesitate to give us a call or send an email.
You may recall I shared a draft end of year schedule of events with you a few weeks ago. Since then we have had an additional snow day. The Dresden Board and SAU will reconsider the projected last school day for the 16-17 year at their meeting next week. It may be that it moves from to . I'll let you know as soon as I get the information. Our plan would be to hold our 8th grade last week activity schedule as was previously shared understanding that many of you have already made plans accordingly. More to come on this.
Finally, I had the pleasure of joining the 8th grade Spanish cafe this week with Sras. Madory and Peters. For those who have not heard about the project the class is transformed into a restaurant complete with tables, menus, waitstaff, and a whole host of delicious food and treats. As a customer I joined two students for a meal and conversation. Our waitress reviewed the menu, gave her recommendations, and took our order in Spanish. When we had questions she returned to the "kitchen" and sought answers. During the meal my table enjoyed casual conversation using prompts and suggestions provided by the teachers. For me, the conversation was easy and relaxed. Our attempts at Spanish were celebrated and accepted at whatever accuracy we maintained (mine is pretty rusty!). The whole atmosphere felt authentic, safe, and fun. I'd like to thank my table-mates for their encouragement and patience with me!
Have a terrific weekend and Happy Spring!

Annual Parent/Guardian Survey
The Dresden School Board, in conjunction with the staff at the Richmond Middle School, asks for annual feedback from parents and guardians so that we can celebrate our successes and identify opportunities for improvement. Staff will review the results of this survey over the remainder of this school year. We will use the results to help guide our ongoing work and discussions and also to aid in setting our building goals for the 17-18 school year.
The survey questions and format were created using a combination of previous survey questions, staff and parent topics, resources from Harvard School of Education, and in consultation with a community member with expertise in survey development and evaluation. Some questions and topics repeat year to year while others are more specific to a goal or shorter-term effort. We realize some questions are easier to answer and others feel a little more open or difficult to respond to. We appreciate your efforts and time as you work through the survey and we will consider each response.
The survey can be found via the web at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/RMSParents2017 or you may request a paper copy from the RMS office. The survey will remain open until .

-RMS Math Team news: Fifth place finish at MATHCOUNTS NH State competition with Rose Luttmer tied for third place on points, but nudged out of the top four on a single tie-breaker question. Rose did finish fourth in the head-to-head round (like a two-person lightning round, enough to make most of us wither.) Congrats to team members Eric Chen, James Chen, Rose Luttmer and Sophie Usherwood.
