Principal's Corner

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I have two wonderful examples of RMS students interacting with the community to highlight this week.

Last night, RMS theatre students presented a showcase highlighting their work for an audience of friends and family. A combo of 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students performed scenes and songs from a variety of plays. Congratulations to all of the students and their teacher Amanda Emmerton. The spring play this year will be "The Wizard of Oz" presented on May 19th and 20th.  Auditions will be held on February 3rd and 4th and are open to all RMS students.

The RMS Chorus groups spent this week visiting and performing for several local senior living facilities. The 6th grade chorus visited Bugabee Senior Center, the 7th grade girls chorus visited the Upper Valley Senior Center, and the 7th and 8th grade boys chorus visited Kendal at Hanover. I was able to join the boys chorus today at Kendal and was so impressed with our students and the experience. Josh Hall and John Lovejoy led the boys through an engaging and interactive performance. They kicked off the event with a song on stage and then moved the audience into a circle, students sitting with residents. Mr. Hall handed out songbooks and the group sang a whole medley of songs together. The music was great, the smiles and laughter between the different generations was special. Thank you to all of our chorus groups for sharing their talents with the community.

Changing topics, Q2 report cards are now available through the Powerschool portal. The RMS staff spent an enormous amount of time in the last week crafting individual comments to accompany the quarter final grades. I read through most of them and am impressed by the collective picture they paint of a student's progress, strengths, and potential areas in need of improvement. We have noticed a bit of a glitch with the code that is making it necessary for you to click on the "Teacher Comment" tab on the left-hand side of the portal window to view the comments. We have the Powerschool engineers and our technology folks working on getting things back to normal and hope the regular display will be available soon. We hope you and your child find the information presented in the report cards useful and remind you to contact your child's teacher if you have any questions.

Have a great weekend! Still no snow days...
