A message from RICHMOND MIDDLE SCHOOL
Frances C. Richmond Middle School Friday Focus
7th Grade Civil War Soldier Project Night at RMS.
Our 7th grade wrapped up a local history project today with visits to local cemeteries. Each student researched a local Civil War soldier as part of an interdisciplinary unit. In addition to investigating the life of a local soldier, students learned about the Civil War through stories, historical accounts and records, book discussions, simulated battlefield surgeries, and other curricular explorations. Their research culminated in student exhibitions of their learning at the Civil War Project evening event last night. RMS hosted families who were treated to reenactments, musical performances, and exhibits all created and delivered by students. Parents I spoke with were impressed by the depth of knowledge displayed by the students, the students ability to respond to questions and the diversity of exhibits. For most, the hour flew by.
Through the Civil War Soldier project and integrated curricular unit we hope students will understand that…
For those who were able to attend the evening program we thank you for coming! Please let us know if you have suggestions on how we might improve the evening. To the students and staff who created the evening as an exhibition of learning, thank you!
Integrated curricular units are an important part of a quality middle school education. Each of grade levels include several experiences like the Civil Way Soldier Project. You can find more about each of them on our web site and in our curriculum portal.
I hope that you and your family have a wonderful spring break. We look forward to welcoming back relaxed and rejuvenated learners in a week.
