+Principal’s Corner

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We are very pleased to announce that Dr. Philipp Ackermann, Deputy Ambassador and Deputy Chief of Mission at the German Embassy in Washington, DC will be visiting Hanover and Norwich May 18th and 19th with a scheduled speaking engagement-- school-wide forum-- at Hanover High School.  Joining the Ambassador in a panel discussion on world affairs will be Professor James Russell Muirhead from the Dartmouth Government Department, and former Ambassador at-Large and Director of the Dartmouth Dickey Center for International Understanding, Daniel Benjamin.
In addition, Ambassador Ackermann has generously offered to speak to our communities on the evening of Monday, May 18th from 4:45--5:45 on the Town Green in Norwich (directly in front of Marion Cross School).  The invitation is open to any and all from our parents and community members in Hanover and Norwich, and we hope that you will have the opportunity to join us for this very special event.  Ambassador Ackermann will provide a brief introduction and the reason for his visit, and then open it up to questions from the audience.  MCS Principal, Bill Hammond and I will serve as facilitators and moderators of the event and each of us will have standing microphones available for all those who wish to respond with questions and/or commentary.
We hope to see you at this very special event in honor of our schools and community.
Best regards,
Frank Bass

-Rotary International Exchange Student Program

The Hanover Rotary Club and Hanover HS support this wonderful foreign exchange program. The Rotary International program allows students to live, from 8 months up to a full year, in a foreign country with host families and to attend local schools.  We have found this to be a rich and rewarding immersion program for students. We also find that hosting  Rotary exchange students at HHS enriches our local students’ experiences and the host families’ as well.  Anyone who has met our  current Inbound students , Tihana Strnad (Croatia), and Joseph Glock ( Germany) can attest to what wonderful young people they are.

HHS  Current Outbound Students - now completing their year abroad and returning to Hanover in the next several weeks:

Janna Borg – HHS junior, Gottingen, Germany

Flora Cullen – HHS junior, Bangkok, Thailand

Lilydahn Stewart – HHS junior, Cremona, Italy

HHS Future Outbounds  - The following students will depart sometime this summer for their year abroad. Please join us in congratulating them on being awarded this amazing Exchange opportunity!

Cleo Roback – rising HHS junior, Chile

Chiarra Rothwell-Ferraris – rising HHS junior, Indonesia

Looking for Host Families in Hanover and Norwich for Our Inbound Rotary Student for 2015-16

This August the Hanover Rotary Club and Hanover HS will welcome our incoming Rotary Exchange student, Jonas Weber.  Jonas Weber is 18 years old, and hails from Ratingen,  North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. He loves track and field (his team reached the German finals.)  His specialty is the pole vault.  He also water skis.  He has several younger sisters and has a dog.

We are looking for families willing to host Jonas for periods of up to 3 months.   Traditionally, each inbound student spends approximately three months each with three different host families while they attend HHS. If you are interested in this opportunity please contact Julia Griffin (
