Re: Registering at Hanover High School

Dear Parent/Guardian:

On February 8, 2017 at 6:30 Hanover High School is hosting a Curriculum Night to introduce the HHS curriculum and classes to incoming families of 9th graders. After a greeting by Principal Campbell, representatives from each HHS department will provide an overview of their subject and teaching methods, and be available to answer questions. We strongly encourage you to attend. Many questions you may have in the coming months will be answered at this event. Meeting will be held in the HHS auditorium.

In regard to your child’s transition from middle to high school, your child’s RMS teachers and school counselors will coordinate with the high school teachers and counselors to place your child in appropriate classes and make sure he/she has the best start possible in high school. Below are a few items to be aware of during this transition time.

Placement testing will occur on several different dates at RMS during the school day. Once all placement tests are complete, we will send your child’s recommendations for placement to his/her school counselor. Once this is done, electives can be chosen and a tentative schedule worked out by you, your child and his/her school counselor.  Math, science and upper levels of foreign language classes will be determined by their teacher evaluations and placement exams. Physical Education, English 9, and Citizenship and World History are required courses for all 9th graders.

Selection of ninth grade classes is primarily for electives only. Electives are listed on the Course Registration Planning Sheet. Please bear in mind that Design is a prerequisite for all other studio art classes. Please select one elective and one alternate elective. For additional information regarding available courses, please see the Program of Studies on our website ( Course Registration Planning Sheets are due March 6, 2017.

THE ABOVE ITEMS MUST BE COMPLETED AND FORMS RETURNED TO HHS BY MARCH 1, 2017. Your RMS counselor will assist you in this process, and will ensure the transfer of your child’s official school record to HHS.
