Dear Students, Parents and Guardians:

Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year at the Richmond Middle School! We hope that you have had a wonderful summer full of time relaxing with friends and family. RMS has been extremely busy this summer hosting the Prouty and Hanover Recreation summer programs, cleaning and maintenance, ongoing teacher and staff meetings and a variety of professional development activities. While the school has been busy, we always look forward to our building being full of staff and students on the first day of school. We hope that you are excited about the new year and are ready to make this the best possible year it can be.

Richmond Middle School students distinguish themselves in our classrooms, school events, extra-curricular activities, the community, and in supporting and encouraging one another. We offer a rigorous, diverse, and carefully designed and delivered educational program whose intent is to guide each student on their path to becoming confident independent learners. Further, we emphasize real-world connections and an interdisciplinary approach to learning that is based on the skills of communication, collaboration, and creativity.

We encourage you to get to know our teachers, counselors, staff and administrators. We are all committed to assisting each student on their path to success and growth during their time at RMS. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us. We value and appreciate the input, conversation, and collaboration as we all work to make the Richmond Middle School the very best school it can be. To that end we would encourage you to visit our web page often as we aim to provide dynamic content and resources as well as highlights of activities and events through our calendars, Twitter (@RMSHanover), newsletters, and web resources.

We welcome several new staff members this year.

You can find a complete list of our staff and teaching assignments on our web page.

On Monday, August 29, from 3:00-4:30 p.m., we invite students new to the district (students who were not at either the Ray School or Marion Cross School last year) for an orientation hosted by our Guidance Counselors, John Lacrosse and Elizabeth Powers. Following that program, we will offer an opportunity for any student who would like a “refresher” tour of the building to gather informally at 5:00 p.m. in the auditorium with tours led by our Student Council. School officially starts at 7:55 a.m. on Wednesday, August 31.

Please let us know if you have any questions or ideas as we all work to make Richmond Middle School an outstanding middle school program and experience for each student.

Enjoy the rest of your summer!

Michael Lepene, Principal and Amanda Yates, Associate Principal
